AESTHETIC SURGERY

Surgical Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

What are the surgical techniques used? What is the operation like?

A surgical lift can eliminate loose, excess skin and tighten the underlying facial muscles. Depending on the location, we speak of a face-lift, a neck-lift, or a brow-lift.
For this type of procedure, the incision is made behind the hairline and behind the ears so that the scars are well hidden.
Surgical lifts are performed under general anesthesia during a hospital stay lasting several days.

What happens after the operation?

To avoid postoperative hemorrhage, the patient initially receives a tight compression bandage, which is exchanged for a looser one the day after the operation. The sutures are removed in stages over the first two weeks following surgery. Physical strain and sports activities should be avoided for the first four weeks. Due to the postoperative swelling, patients often limit social visits and refrain from going out in public for a period of about two weeks; this period may be longer for patients with a particular disposition to swell or bruise after trauma.

Could there be any complications?

During the surgery, the skin is completely detached from the underlying facial musculature, which is also tightened. The operation is thus conducted on structures which are innervated by the facial nerve (nervus facialis), which in rare cases may be permanently damaged. Because the wound covers a large area which is pervaded with blood vessels, postoperative hemorrhaging could occur. If this is the case, an immediate revision must be carried out because the hemorrhaging puts pressure on the skin, which could lead to improper healing and damage to the skin surface. The patient should remain in the hospital for a few days following the surgery so that any complications may be confronted as soon as possible.
